The WonderWise program is unique in offering true multi-age classrooms throughout the campus. Children remain in their classroom cohort throughout the September – June learning season, aging-up ‘in place’ during the year and enjoying changing challenges as they advance with their friends. This allows deeper bonds between students and educators over the year, and solid friendship formation for children. As the next learning season approaches, flexibility is possible with room movements to ensure the best interest of the child across the developmental domains is met.
Starting at 19 months of age, the WonderWise program guides toddlers through curiosity driven opportunities to spark their natural sense of discovery. By providing thoughtful direction and encouraging independence, our youngest students become adept problem solvers and learn to work in concert with their classmates. As our students move into their mid-2s, we support the partnership between home and care to achieve the milestone of toilet learning. Children continue to expand socially and emotionally through neighborhood walks, active outdoor play, and being exposed to STEM and art invitations.
As children bridge into age 3, the invitations to explore literacy and numeracy in everyday ways increases. Teacher-led invitations for science, culture and learning about the world around us increase as children’s comprehension and focus grows, and their interest to know more about the world expands.
Into age 4 and beyond, children are active students of the world and learn more about care of self, care of others, and care of the classroom environment. Sound exploration and mark-making invitations encourage first steps into reading and writing, and vocabulary expands through daily introduction to new ideas. Teamwork and social negotiations are supported and guided by educators as older children navigate their way through friendships and play.
Our WonderKinder program is the final step in early learning before our mighty learner graduate to Grade 1. With morning academics equivalent to publicly-funded kindergartens, and an expanded afternoon of additional STEM, art, and loose parts creativity, your child graduates with the skills they need to succeed in elementary school and beyond.
Regardless of your entry age with WonderWise, our classroom approach ensures a family-style bond. With friends to learn from, and friends to help along the way, we ensure that every child finds their home in our community.
We believe in nurturing the whole child—socially, emotionally, intellectually, physically, and creatively—through hands-on experiences that spark wonder and foster growth. Our skilled educators guide children in exploring the world around them, providing rich learning opportunities that encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving.
Our curriculum is rooted in respected educational philosophies, including:
Rich experiences help build communication, reading, and writing skills, laying the foundation for lifelong success.
Play-based learning fosters exploration, discovery, and hands-on experiences, using approaches like Reggio Emilia, Montessori, and HighScope.
Outdoor and nature-based learning develop physical health, resilience, and an appreciation for the environment.
Balance cognitive, physical, emotional, and social growth, empowering children to solve problems and navigate challenges confidently.
Each child’s unique abilities and interests are embraced, fostering confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.
Strong partnerships with families and a collaborative staff create a supportive, caring community for children’s growth.
Our classroom approach aligns with Alberta’s FLIGHT Framework, designed to promote a child-led and inquiry-based early learning experience. By exploring different themes each week appropriate to the seasons, the school cycle, and the children’s interests, our educators offer a balance of teacher-created invitations and child-led explorations.
Our Centre’s philosophy looks to and is inspired by best practices from across the pedagogical landscape. We encourage and embrace the grace and courtesy of Montessori, the loose parts / open-ended exploration from Reggio, imaginative play from Waldorf, and the active participatory learning principles of HighScope.
